Overview

Zoolingo is an animated early-learning app that turns language and cognitive skills into play for preschool children: colors, shapes, animals, ABCs, math, and grammar, taught through a friendly monkey guide. Mobizio designed and built it from scratch, and it's been downloaded more than 4 million times across the App Store and Google Play, with sound and text instructions in 16 languages reaching children worldwide.

The Challenge

Preschool learning apps face a double bar: they have to genuinely delight a 3-5-year-old and earn the trust of the parents and educators who decide what stays on the device. The product needed to be playful and visually rich, pre-reader-friendly enough for children to navigate alone, pedagogically credible across multiple skill areas, available in many languages, and engineered to stay smooth, stable, and safe as the audience scaled into the millions.

What We Built

  • A play-based curriculum across 6 skill areas: colors, shapes, animals, ABCs, math, and grammar
  • Free animal games, interactive puzzles, and educational tasks
  • A character-led experience (the Zoolingo monkey) with rich 2D animation
  • Full multilingual support: sound and text instructions in 16 languages (English, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, French, and 10 more)
  • Intuitive, pre-reader-friendly UI so children can explore independently
  • Built from scratch for iOS and Android

The Engineering

We owned delivery end-to-end: design, animation, build, and launch. The app is built on Solar2D (Lua) with a Firebase backend, Spine for fluid 2D skeletal character animation, and TexturePacker for optimized art assets, with original artwork produced in Photoshop and Illustrator. Supporting sound and text in 16 languages meant a localization-first content architecture, all engineered to stay fast and crash-resistant under sustained, large-scale usage.

Why It Matters

Zoolingo proves Mobizio doesn't just prototype. We ship and sustain production software used by millions, in 16 languages, across two app stores. The same engineering discipline that delivered reliability and scale for real users is exactly what we now bring to production AI.
